Nava joined the practice in July 2002 and became a partner in 2009. He obtained his first qualification of Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom in 1989. He completed the Certificate of Legal Practice (Malaysia) in 1990. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 1992. Subsequently, he was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Brunei in July 2002. In 1999 Nava was awarded the Master of Laws (LLM) by the University of Malaya.

Nava specializes in civil litigation. His area of expertise is in banking, contract, corporate, insolvency, land, tenancy and tort. A number of cases that Nava has been involved in as an advocate have subsequently been reported in the Brunei Law Reports. In one of the cases that he handled, Nava had the privilege of submitting for a change in procedural laws in Brunei – which was eventually accepted and changed. He was a member of Working Committee that assisted in the drafting of the Insolvency (Winding- Up) Rules 2018, Insolvency (Insolvency Practitioners) Rules 2018.
