Biography

  • Admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, 2001

  • Admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Brunei, 2009

Wai Yee joined the firm in 2019. She is currently the head of the conveyancing department in the firm.

In Malaysia, Wai Yee started her legal career in Messrs Lee, Ong & Kandiah and assisted in civil litigation, including ship arrests and the applications to set aside arrest, banking recovery litigation, debt recovery against hire purchase defaulters, bankruptcy proceedings, debt recovery litigation arising from the sale of goods and the supply of services, divorce proceedings and applications for grant of probate and letters of administration.

Wai Yee subsequently specialised in conveyancing work when she joined Messrs Lee, Loke & Co, which subsequently became Messrs The Chambers of Lee, where she made a partner. In Malaysia, Wai Yee has acted for most of the banks and financial institutions offering conventional loans and Islamic financing. She also advises on various banking and financing security documentation and the rendering of advice to these entities in relation to the same.

In 2009, Wai Yee moved to Brunei Darussalam and practiced conveyancing at Messrs Choek Advocates & Solicitors from 2010 until 2019. In her practice in Brunei Darussalam, Wai Yee has acted for most of the conventional and Islamic financial institutions and for various developers of housing and commercial properties.

Wai Yee specialises in conveyancing related documentation such as the preparation of sale and purchase agreements, development agreements, tenancy agreements, investment agreements, advising as attorney and trust deeds relating to loans and preparation of bank security documentation for both individuals and companies. She also handles applications for grants of probate and letters of administration and transfer of shares. The other areas of Wai Yee’s practice in relation to preparation of last wills and testament to preparation of last wills and testament, partnership agreements, joint venture and sale of business agreements.
