Between 1985 and 1990, Ahmad worked at the Attorney General’s Chambers holding the posts as Counsel/Deputy Public Prosecutor, Deputy Registrar of Trade Marks, Deputy Registrar of Companies and Deputy Registrar of Business Names.

From 1986 to October 1990, in addition to his duties at the Attorney General’s Chambers, Ahmad was seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Having left government service, in November 1990 Ahmad became a partner in Douglas Lind Ahmad Isa & Co. In January 1992, Douglas Lind Ahmad Isa & Co merged with another law firm, Ibrahim Chee & Co to form Ahmad Isa Lee & Lind. Ahmad Isa Lee & Lind changed its name to Ahmad Isa & Partners in November 1997.

After many years in private practice, Ahmad was appointed to serve as the Attorney-General of Brunei Darussalam in 2020. During his tenure, from 2020 to 2024, he made various contributions to developing the legal landscape as well as the standards of practice at the Attorney General’s Chambers.
